Terms & Conditions for Joining KAMSA Youth Symphony Orchestra
KAMSA Youth Orchestra is a ten-day intensive music program held annually. Attendance at all rehearsals and sectionals is essential for both individual growth and the success of the ensemble.
The following terms and conditions apply to students and parents/guardians accepting KAMSA's invitation:
1. Preparation Requirements
Members must arrive at the first sectional/rehearsal having thoroughly prepared all assigned repertoire.
2. Attendance Policy
Members must attend all sectionals and rehearsals unless an excused absence form is submitted or special permission is granted by the Orchestra Coordinator.
Consequences for unexcused absences:
One unexcused absence within a program year: Seating assignment will be subject to change.
Two or more unexcused absences within three years: Scholarship eligibility will be affected.
Excused Absences:
Mandatory orchestra commitments: Participation in your current orchestra's summer activities or training programs. (Absence form must be submitted immediately upon awareness, no later than four weeks before KAMSA Youth Symphony Orchestra Program begins.)
Mandatory school activities: Required school-related events. (Absence form must be submitted no later than two weeks before KAMSA Youth Symphony Orchestra Program begins.)
Illness or emergencies: Notify KAMSA immediately. (Doctor's note required for illness.)
Note: Absences due to tutoring, academic enrichment, or non-mandatory extracurricular activities will not be excused. Please plan accordingly.
3. Punctuality
Members must arrive at least 10 minutes before the scheduled start time. Repeated tardiness will result in consequences, including potential seating changes.
4. Code of Conduct
Members must demonstrate:
Appropriate behavior and discipline during all rehearsals, sectionals, and performances.
Full attention to conductors and respect towards conductors, coaches, staff, volunteers, and fellow musicians.
Preparedness for all rehearsals by practicing at home and working with private teachers on assigned music as needed.
Responsibility for personal belongings and respectful use of all facilities and equipment.
Professional conduct at all times, refraining from disruptive behavior including excessive talking or unauthorized use of electronic devices during rehearsals.
Zero Tolerance Policy:
KAMSA maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding the use of drugs and alcohol, smoking, illegal activities, and any form of harassment or bullying.
Violations will result in immediate dismissal from the program without refund.
5. Withdrawal Policy
Students who withdraw after registration are responsible for assisting in finding a suitable replacement or may forfeit any applicable fees.
6. Media Release and Artistic Decisions
KAMSA reserves the right to use photography, audio, and video recordings from the program for promotional and archival purposes.
KAMSA reserves the right to determine all seating arrangements to maximize ensemble balance and musical quality. Seating decisions are final and not subject to appeal.
7. Liability Waiver
KAMSA is not responsible for personal injuries or damage to musical instruments during program activities. Participants are encouraged to maintain appropriate insurance coverage.
